Overview
The first exchange, themed “Local Content: Vision to Implementation,” focused on the key principles and concepts Kenya must clarify before embarking on the local content policy journey. Participants discussed the need for a clear national vision and policy for local content and the need to take a regional (i.e. East Africa) approach that is centered on capacity and competitiveness in the oil and gas sector. Participants agreed on the role of local content as a catalyst for the development of sectors beyond oil and gas and as an enabler for economic transformation. The private sector contributed that only by embracing international standards and best practices can Kenyan firms access oil and gas contracts and target regional and global markets. The outcomes of the forum are detailed in the forum report and podcast.
