Extractives Baraza works to challenge perceptions and redefine stakeholder engagement practices in Africa’s extractives sector.

Extractives Baraza is a multisector advocacy-neutral public platform, hosted at the Strathmore Extractives Industry Centre based at Strathmore University, which aims to facilitate access to information and foster meaningful stakeholder engagement in the extractives industry in Kenya and the broader African region. Extractives Baraza works to challenge perceptions, redefine stakeholder engagement practices in Africa’s extractives sector and promote evidence based and impact driven research. Together with SEIC, we provide training and capacity building to a range of stakeholders, particularly young African professionals, to enhance their ability to utilize and benefit from the extractives sector and to stimulate sustainable economic growth.

Our Projects

Research
We conduct qualitative and quantitative research into various thematic areas of the extractive sector and make the output from field and desktop research more accessible to the diverse actors working in the extractive sector. Such research primarily helps to inform policy and law making, and guide EB’s stakeholder engagement and capacity building programmes.
Capacity Building
We deliver capacity building programmes fundamental to robust stakeholder understanding and participation in the extractives sector. Our programme has taken an innovative approach which involves executive courses, tailored capacity building for target audience and a support platform for youth entrepreneurs.
Stakeholder Engagement
EB works to foster meaningful stakeholder engagement to shape policy and practice in Kenya’s petroleum and mining sectors. We employ a coordinated and focused approach that involves government, private sector and civil society organisations in solving extractives sector challenges together.
