However, as Kenyans are anxious to obtain the greatest benefits from the discovered petroleum and mineral resources, lack of an overarching local content framework has made it difficult to achieve the desired goals.
Conversations have also been sparked around the term “local” with different stakeholders taking different approaches which now form the substance of the different local content legislative, regulatory and policy proposals. Spurred by these conversations, the EPWG seeks to incentivise dialogue around the concept of local content in Kenya’s extractives sector, drawing on different legal and policy scenarios.
