5th Mining 4i - Extractives Baraza

The 5th Mining 4i was themed “Championing Innovation amongst African Youth at the Grassroots to Promote Sustainable Development in the Mining Sector”. The forum was partly sponsored by Base Titanium.

The Mining4i is a capacity building platform which aims to show young people that the mining industry is an industry with a great deal of potential. The forum aims to demonstrate that this is a high tech, high value industry which is bringing real benefits to people around the world. Therefore, we must show young people how exciting and fulfilling a career in energy can be. Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation and through empowerment, they can be key agents for development in just about any and every industry.

The Mining 4i is a forum organized annually with the rationale of creating a platform where young people from across the East African region can interact with key mining stakeholders and senior professionals and contribute towards mineral value addition through innovative mining and manufacturing.

Young innovators and professionals from various institutions in Kenya were given a chance to plug into the four pillars of Mining4i namely: information, innovation, interaction and investment. The event saw a convergence of stakeholders in the extractives (mining, oil and gas) with representatives from the government, the county government, private sector, civil society organizations, law firms, and academic institutions.
