Overview

EB has hosted 2 extractives moot court competitions since 2018. The inaugural moot court competition was themed Sustainable Exploration and Production of Natural Resources in a Changing Environment. The second moot court competition was themed Exploring Sustainable Mechanisms towards Foreign Direct Investments in the Mining Industry. To give our audiences the uniqueness of the two moots, we have documented videos of the first and second moot court competitions.

The event organized by the Extractives Baraza attracts the participation of African/regional law schools as a way to build capacity for this emerging oil, gas and mining sector in Africa, which has extraordinary potential to catalyse development and uplift millions from poverty.

The moot court competition has been a unique platform that has provided an opportunity to shape young legal professionals future in the extractives space. This has seen the participants get an opportunity for fellowship and internships in reputable institutions while at the same time shaping their academic goals.
