Research findings following a field study to identify and document extractives related grievances, preferred grievance handling mechanisms. The project, conducted between June to August 2018 in Turkana County, was an expansion of the Extractives Baraza’s Pilot Listening Project conducted in April 2017 in Mui Basin, a coal rich region in Kitui County. The findings generated through this research informed the Judiciary Training on Extractives on 5th-9th November 2018, and the Judiciary Guide and Community fact sheet respectively.

The AMLA Workshop, part of the African Mining Legislation Atlas (AMLA) Project which aims to provide customized contextual and legal data on Africa’s mining laws through the AMLA website as well as building the capacity of Africa’s next generation of legal experts in mining law.

The report highlights the discussions of The second Quarterly Fireside Chat (QFC). It focused its discussions on innovative industry-led models towards public participation in the extractives industries.

Sixth Extractives Sector Forum (ESF): Land Access and Acquisition for Extractives Projects: Institutional Roles and Coordination Report The 6th Extractives Sector Forum (ESF) took place on June 15th, 2017. Based on the Quarterly Fireside Chat on Africa’s petroleum and mining contracts, the report highlights the discussions by attendees on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that exist as a result of the confidentiality clauses.

The Extractives Baraza (EB) held its first Quarterly Fireside Chat on 12th April 2017 at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya. The forum saw a convergence of stakeholders in the extractives industry with representatives from the government, civil society organizations, extractives companies, law firms and academic institutions.

The fifth Extractives Sector Forum (ESF) that took place on March 16, 2017 discussed the complex issue of land access and acquisition for extractive sector projects. The goal of the discussions was to establish how to balance different interests at stake in extractives related projects.

On 15th August – 30th September, 2016 Strathmore Extractives Industry Centre (SEIC) conducted a national level information needs assessment in Kenya’s extractives sector. The main objective of the needs assessment was to elicit a basic understanding of the informational needs and challenges that various stakeholders experience in Kenya’s extractive industry so as to inform the content and products ICES should generate and disseminate relevant to the needs of different stakeholders. This report presents a detailed analysis of the findings of the needs assessment.
